This project was born from an encounter with the Laurette. Early in their jewelry maker careers in Paris, they crossed paths with Courrèges, exhibited with J.Vendome and Dinh Van. They shared with me a part of the fascinating yet little-known history of contemporary French jewelry.

Among the figures of this scene, Suzanne Somogyi holds a singular place. I met her at a joint exhibition a few months before her passing at the age of 49. Her creative energy left a profound impression on me. She left behind a rich and powerful body of work, yet it remains largely overlooked.

The exhibition, is a tribute to her but, more broadly, a questioning :

What remains of these pioneers of contemporary jewelry in France when media attention is lacking?

Artists

Suzanne Somogyi

Born on November 2, 1950, in Hungary, she trained artistically in a jewelry section during secondary school, then continued her studies for five years at the École Supérieure d’Art.

Arriving in Paris in 1976, she took part in group exhibitions. In 1979, she held her first solo exhibition at Galerie Monade. She chose to create only unique pieces, exploring and combining materials such as plexiglass, aluminum, enamel, and carved pebbles, assembled into jewelry with highly geometric and refined forms.
