CHILEAN COCKTAIL vol 3
Artivistas, a socially engaged art gallery dedicated to South American culture in the heart of Paris, was the perfect venue to bring together an intoxicating mix of seven Chilean women artists.
Deeply rooted in the traditions of their country, and resolutely contemporary in their artistic approach, they explore materials as diverse as copper, resin, wool, organza, horsehair, and even used roll-on deodorant containers…
They define themselves as jewelry makers, claiming their identity as both artisans and artists, and their works tell stories of lived experience and a strong connection to their homeland.
Ana, Maca, Rita, Yael, Monoco, Vania, and Valeria are the seven magical ingredients of a high-voltage artistic cocktail that invites you to let go of your usual frame of reference.
Artists
Chilean jewellery designer. She completed her
university education in design at the Catholic University of
Santiago and subsequently specialised in jewellery in Zaragoza,
Spain.
Throughout her career, she has taken part in various
artistic jewellery workshops with leading international
professionals. Her work has been featured in
numerous exhibitions across Europe, the Americas and Chile.
Her artistic approach focuses on working with the absurd and
contradictions, seeking to surprise the viewer by
offering new interpretations of an object through her
creativity and unique vision, giving value to the insignificant.
A jeweller based in the south of France for the past 25 years, she is driven by a passion for craftsmanship and jewellery. Trained in Marseille, she obtained the BMA state diploma (Art of Jewellery and Gems), before honing her skills in traditional jewellery-making and the luxury sector, further developing her technical expertise. She then turned her attention to contemporary and designer jewellery, driven by a need for artistic expression. Since 2017, she has been creating her own pieces and collections in her studio-gallery in Séguret. A member of the Syndicat des Métiers d’Art (Ateliers d’art de France) since 2021, she approaches her work with a committed and exacting approach.
Mónica Pérez Gutiérrez, known as Monoco, trained as a designer in Santiago and specialised in jewellery in Scotland, where she began to explore contemporary art jewellery.
Since 1998, she has taken part in exhibitions, both
in Chile and across Europe, the United States and South America, and was selected in 2019 for Enjoiat Barcelona, a renowned art jewellery exhibition and competition.
She has been a member of Joya Brava since its inception and, under its auspices, has been taking part in group activities,
in Chile and abroad, since 2010.
Her journey in jewellery design stems from a family tradition: she learned the craft from her father, viewing manual skill as a source of knowledge. Trained in industrial design, she developed a contemporary approach combining technique, concept and materiality. In 2012, she founded LAJOIA Escuela de Joyería, dedicated to training and experimentation. As President of JOYA BRAVA (2014–2018 and 2022–2024), she leads collective initiatives and directs the 4th Latin American Biennial of Contemporary Jewellery in Chile (2024). Her practice explores the field through horsehair micro-basketry, where weaving, memory and the body converge.
Valeria Martínez Nahuel (Chile) is a goldsmith and visual artist with over thirty years’ experience in contemporary jewellery. Her work focuses on filigree as a sculptural language, engaging with metal through a contemporary approach linked to nature, memory and place. She has taken part in group exhibitions and projects in Chile and abroad, consolidating a line of research sustained over time. As the creator of the Árboles Sagrados collection, launched ten years ago and now reinterpreted, her work is evolving towards a more introspective exploration, linked to lineage, heritage and identity.
Vania Ruiz (Chile) is an architect and contemporary jewellery artist. Since 2010, she has been developing a practice that combines craftsmanship, material
research and cultural reflection. Her work explores popular expressions, domestic memory and the local landscape, incorporating industrial materials as the raw materials of our era.
She has exhibited in Chile, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands,
Poland, Greece, Portugal, Argentina and the United States.
She won First Prize at the 2nd Latin American Biennial of Contemporary Jewellery (2018 and 2021). Since 2018 she has been a member of the Chilean Cocktail collective.
A Chilean jewellery designer and visual artist who has been based in Barcelona for 26 years, she trained in contemporary artistic jewellery at the Escola Massana. Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, as well as at biennials, competitions, museums and galleries across the Americas and Europe. Selected for Schmuck 2024 and exhibited at Hardwerk Design in Munich, she was also a finalist in Enjoia’t 2018. In 2014, she presented South Colors, supported by the Chilean government’s FONDART. She is a member of Artesanía Cataluña, the board of A-FAD HUB Barcelona and co-founder of La Brújula Arte en Tránsito.
